What to say, what to say?

why did I go? Kind offer of a lift made it possible, book change hassle and frequent lack of sleep brought on by children made it a wonderful distraction... Wanted to meet up with people and that was lovely, and of course seeing a few top bands also helped. Unlike a great many of the people who had a long association and ingrained love for GB this was my first time. Others who I know who went away this time came away with a similar responce which was... well... It was somewhat chaotic and disorganised wasn't it? Lots to love of course and coffee in the Tiny Tea Tent was very cool and calming.

Anyhow I went because I needed to. Past few months have been hairy and wifey knew I needed the break so chased me out of the house with a waffle iron (or something). (and incidentally how exactly do you iron a waffle? he said, tangentally, so as for some semblance of the blog name to be valid.)

Drew a little, primarily through the gigs and some of the images are added here. Wife, bless her, also banned me from leaving the house with anything even remotely related to the book or research to it so instead I took a packed lunch and a new sketchpad. Loved it, just sitting sketching. During the Quench gig had a nice chat with an art student and we talked oils and watercolours and miracles of moving to places with best friends and all that. Quench, Steve and OneHundredHours were on fine form indeed, although it was a little strange to listen to them in the sunshine and not in a darkened Butlins show room of some kind or another or a large farm warehouse. Odd indeed, and not unpleasant.

About the bands? Defo my sort of listening. For some odd reason yet to buy the Quench CD, shall do one day, love 'em live, Steve: what can I say? Lead singer Neil Wilson has an excellent voice and holds the stage brilliantly, the band bounce around like a good mad thing (as do Quench and Jamie Hill especially :~) ) Loved the EP, loved Divine Design and look forward muchly to a new platter from them.

OneHundredHours? Top songs + passion = very good to listen to + then some. Could say more, shan't for the mo' (but will in a paragraphs time) but coffee with Tré after the gig was a total joy and a highlight for the day for me.

Lovely to meet Karin, Bayou and the assembled wibloggers as well.. Looking forward to seeing the piccies. Amusingly Dave had played the joke of finding the furthest flung point for the meet up and oh how we laughed when someone spotted the W flag sparkling like a very small flag over a very great distance. Dashed from 100h gig to the W meet, chatted and drank wine (yum) then waddled like a quick thing all the way back to meet band after their signing sesh. Tori, incidentally, looked radiant in a pair of jeans, pink t-shirt, brown jacket and cowboy hat. Fashion slot over but top look that their songstress. Big smiles backatcha. Mark S's last gig on bass, God bless fella and congrats on wedding and married life. Paul looked terrifyingly King Kongish on drums. Actually I joke, but the way he zones out, whilst smashing drumkits into flattened pieces of art always makes me smile. Of all of the band, and I say this loving all of them, Paul Baker on drums is the key selling point when I tell friends to hit one of their gigs. Excellent songs, vocals and guitarmanship are there in spades, but the drums, hoo boy the drums...

Starting to read through the blogs now, hopefully my mind will remember a little of what was said and by whom by the time I've searched around. Lovely to talk to Paul and Rosie, to unfairly pick out two, and ironicaly not due to the blog, more down to the fact we have a mutual friend (one of my friends from church is on a longish term CMS placement so we could talk that sort of thing in and around electrical based extreme sports).

Anything else? Sure I've missed something. Loved Simon Smith's 40 for example, Comics panel was a bit of a blowout but did get to see Bayou and new wife and see the wedding piccies over a coffee, although by that time I was feeling so tired I felt sick, but we did have a lovely chat. Got home at 1.30 am and son boy let me sleep until 6. All told lil hairy man had a big day. Ta to all who made it a nice mini-adventure.
