Blood on my hands....

Was walking to sign language lesson today with the spring in my step that being 5 minutes late provides when I saw a slightly older guy walking along the street. Looked very much like David Caradine he did, although the large amount of still wet blood that was leaking out of a fresh wound at the back of his head made things even stranger on a sunny day... I was so surprised at what I was looking at that we even passed by on the street before the penny dropped and I turned round to ask him if he was ok. He smelt a fair amount of alcohol and was stumbling up the street (this is just in front of St John's incidentally so it's not like it was quiet or anything here) and I assumed he'd drunk too much and fallen over. I parked him by a wall and ran off to find out if the church was open (wasn't) saw a police car just turn into the next road and ran over to get them to help... They had been called to a large car crash, white van completely demolished from the front in, and it turned out that I'd located the driver, although when I asked him if I could help he told me that he'd been attacked as he walked home... Policeman and I helped him up and towards the car and I walked over to the signing lesson with blood on my hands, literally, which took a while to wash off before was later than had been expected to the lesson.

Even now it feels quite dreamlike... Hope he was ok, bearing in mind he was a bit of a mess. It surprised me that so many people walked by or failed to stop in their cars, or that he had been allowed to walk away after the crash.

In other news had a meeting with the publisher and we do seem all go for Feb 17th, had a nice chat (all signed of course) in the signing group about some of the book as well (we were all talking about why we were learning to sign) and just back to do a few hours work on the Book Festival stuff as well... busy, but the blood on my hands keeps coming back to mind, unsurprisingly, as does my faily limited ways in which to help which in terms of the amounts of needs that he must have probably didn't amount to a hill of beans...

In other other news was son boys birthday yesterday and he did seem to have a fine old time of it. He liked blowing out candles and opening presents (and believe me that's as much communication as we get often) and we have a family party in the offing for saturday followed by friends party on sunday. He's going to believe birthdays last a week after this one I guess... present of the day was the cash till wfey and I brought on the spur of the moment while buying tuck shop stuff for our youth group. Numbers, things to turn round and bleeps... May even supercede the toy microwave as thing he likes to play with most at this rate.
