Was in Waterstone's North Street in Guildford the other day looking for a book (mirrormask by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean if'n you're interested but ended up putting it on my birthday list instead and buying Here be Monsters by Alan Snow ready for his signing sesh today at the Electric Theatre...)

Anyhow: was in looking at covers for teen books, as I do just trying to get ready for book 2's cover, even though we think we have it nailed it's always interesting to see what's on the shelves. I noticed that their one forlorn copy of Sylver had been moved so assumed that it had been sold or returned... Not encouraging really and, after a long few weeks, felt a smidgeon discouraged. Then I noticed that two copies were on the next shelf instead with a sticker underneath saying that it was reccomended for boys aged 8 - 12 which was pretty cool... Cynically my mind then wondered whether:

a: they were just trying something to sell off the remaining copies.
b: one of the youth groupers, and I know exactly which one would do a sort of thing like that AE, had mocved them while no one was looking (and if so why didn't they move them to Number 2 in the charts for me?)
c: someone at the store read and liked it.

So I was surprised when I asked someone and they said it was probably a head office sort of thing. Phoned head office and they said it was more likely a local store decision, which probably leads us all the way back to a: but did make me smile regardless....

Currently listening to: Delirious? Audio Lessonover. Currently playing: Sim Time, a game where I try to fit in lots of things to a limited time period and generally lose on level 2...
