Like a kid at Christmas...

Ok so here we are in December... Haven't done an ounce of Christmas shopping (well, that's not true, have bought something for wifey), have no idea what my Christmas cards will look like (I normally draw five designs a year to print out and send to people.. This year... Hmm it'll be two at best I reckon).

But: I have got something sorted which I can chat a little about now:

Dr Sylver and the Small Coin is a 12 page collection of a short story (Dr Sylver and the Notivity) and an extract from Dr Sylver book 2, due out next February. It's being released this Christmas in two flavours, as it were. The first flavour is that copies will be sent to various bookshops in the UK and US - I think - for giving out free with various related purchases. Here's the cover:

The second flavour costs money...

Basically I'll have a wodge of these to distribute amongst youth groups and CU's and the like. Then, and this is the juicy part, they can run around the place selling each copy. Every penny they collect will go to somewhere well worth it. It'll go to (da da daaaaaaaa) Christian Aid's Present Aid appeal.

For them what aren't aware CA do a catalog of presents that you can buy for your loved one which'll then get given to someone else on their behalf. You can buy all sorts: worms for farmers in Bolivia, earthquake proof houses, goats, sheep and cows, crutches and stephoscopes, educational resources and the like... All sorts for people in need in the Third World. Check out www.presentaid.org for some more details.

So, in a spirit of wanting to support this, the publisher has paid for a large amount of these booklets to be printed and I'll be off on my travels trying to find y-groups that will help sell them on to raise money. If we get a good response we'll be able to fix up a school that's been damaged by war in places like Angola. That's my hope, that's what I'd love to see us achieve, but by the same token I'll be delighted with a herd of goats or whathaveyou.

Then! Then I've been invited back on Southern Counties to talk about what we've achieved.

On Christmas Day.

In the morning.

Early.

Not that I'm worried about it being early. I dare say the kids will help on the waking up on time front. However it is a pull away from the family. However, to go on the radio to talk about the successes of kids raising money for a hugely positive Christian project... That strikes me as a very excellent Christmas message so I'm aiming to do it.

If anyone's interested in taking a few copies for their youth groups then please do get in touch. If you want to get a free copy via your Christian bookshop tell them to get in touch with Highland and copies will be sent out.

This is the cover, the result of a mass doodling sesh and as for the inside? Next week my friend. It all comes back from the printers on Wednesday... Oooooh Cantwaitcantwaitcantwait... I'm like a kid at Christmas.
