Back. Sign language lesson was a nightmare. We were doing watching words in the wrong order as answers to questions we weren't aware of and had to sign back the correct signs in the correct tense. Tricky, convoluted stuff. Brain ache.
Directly following was a meeting with Mark at Diocese House about the thing that I can't wait to show everyone. I dare say I can tell you though, the knowledge being well out there in the public domain. Basically they are redesigning the parish newspaper: the Diocese Herald. I've been involved in the redesign for a while now and the results, well, I'm really excited.
Directly after that was a meet up with a contact at Andertons for the Arts Centre. A lovely chat and looking forward to the follow up meeting where she gets to see the kids in the wild.
Come back to a PLETHORA of work based emails but, for once, they seem pretty positive. Which is nice. Especially since last week I used almost a weeks worth of hours in two days (after I'd already done my weeks hours anyway DOH) replying to less nice ones.
So, back to CBC. Dr Sylver was there in, well, not force exactly (small publisher, we did shouting loud on a cardboard box with a rolled up piece of paper sort of stuff, although the piece of paper was indeed a very nice one from Guildford Art Centre in Quarry Street, my very favouritest art establishment.
So the plan was that I'd be at the Highland stand, chatting to people about Sylver and the like. As an extra 'marketing wheeze' (not my words) I was on hand drawing a picture on a parchment style piece of paper (an angel looking down and smiling on CBC) and also drawing shrink plastic books. As it was the shrink plastic books were very back burner (wasn't allowed to take an oven in with me by the organisers) (which I can understand) so they were only if I was wanting to something extra and the time allowed. Did do shrink plastic with a couple of kids who were being trawled around by their mum and looked very bored indeed and that was the most fun I had all day I think.
Anyhow: highlights. Long chat with Marti Leinback of Dying Young and Daniel isn't talking fame. That was nice and we got along really well, just an easy going chatting to mate type of thing. Seeing Mary Batholemew (? sp) of the Good Book Stall was nice, she's been a very kind champion of Sylver 1, despite nominally not being in the catchment area the publisher put the book in. The banquet was nice, although I couldn't taste the blueberry. Nice chat with guy on Zondervan stand and he said that he'd pass Tale of the Small Coin on to his daughter. Praying like mad about that one.
Lowlights? Well... That's where the a is for comes in. For some reason an inordinate amount of conversation seemed to revolve around son boys autism and, despite people being kind, caring and compassionate it was very draining. A couple of conversations left me wanting to cry and determined not to do so in what was a fairly large exhibition centre with a good couple of hundred people watching. Hmm what else? didn't eat that entire day (following brekkie) bar half a packet of mints and a couple of glasses of juice and a sandwhich at Reading station at 8pm. Felt tired and jet lagged all of yesterday (having not seen the sun for 36 hours or so) and was teaching so felt less than comfortable...
Anyhow, that sounds low, and was a down couple of days for a good percentage of the time. Was dog tired going in, I should be excited about these things. London Book Festival coming up and a nice couple of meetings (including one Christmas project that I'd LOVE to see get off of the ground) so shall try and psyche myself up for that one....
But nice to be back, nice to have been, nice to be back though.
Oh yeah, last thing. It's March. Sylver 2 was due in Feb. That's where one of the nice meetings from CBC came from. The first person I saw at the show was MB of the Good Book Stall who came up to me and said 'Where is it.' Book 2, I explained, was delayed due to life being somewhat full. End of March/beginning of April. Sorry, I really did try and get it sorted, well, I really did try for Christmas, but really really did try for Feb. But Life IS full and was biting off a fair sized chunk in order to hit CBC. Missed and felt sad about it. But at the beginning of April (and yes, I do know what that means) Sylver 2 hits the shelves. Goes to print tomorrow and may God have mercy on it and me.... :) Nah. Book 2 I AM excited about. Can't wait for people to start readind it. Not long now...
