All sorts of all sorts today.

1: of course it's the 7th and that brings back all sorts of memories. Sitting in my kitchen listening to the news as I waited for the publisher to come along and pick up something, think it was the final manusript for book 2. Weird the things you can and can't remember that should have been a big thing for me yet given the day it became utterly inconsequential. Trying to phone up the friends I have in London and then realising with a jolt that a friend I have here (well, not here here but close regardless) was there and there if you see what I mean. Anyhow, yes. Listening to the radio this morning in pretty much the same seat in the same room bought some of it back arrived home from college this morning just in time to observe the 2 minutes silence in the place where I first heard the news which seemed to be the right place all told.

2: One of the bands with a vague association with the arts centre (as in auditioned there for the Uproar event and pretty much blew me away in both the audition and the subsequent performance) are performing in Guildford this monday at the Star pub. Looking forward to it and checking out their tracks on myspace (www.myspace.com/sdcw which, to be fair to them, does not do them justice. Far better live). If you're in and around Gford that evening there are far worse places you could be than to join the audience for what I hope will be an ace gig. More details on the bands site.

3: in checking out the Five Iron Frenzy website in one of those web crawls that rarely comes across me I found out that a: they've been gone from us for a long time and b: the artwork for two of their cds came from the fantastically talented Doug Tennapel. Now that's a name I remember from one of the first games that really grabbed my throat when it came to character design: Earthworm Jim. Nowadays... well, you should check out the site: http://www.tennapel.com/ Love the character designs, look forward to checking out the comics in greater depth... Looking forward to searching through the site but for me he works in the places I wish I was still involved in with a level of success I can only dream of. Congrats to him and, like much of the things he does, the website is just a joy to look through. The blog of his 16th wedding anniversary meal is a delight to read.

4: Tuesday gig done. Wednesday gig to come: Clear your diaries for thursday the 20th of July if you would, it'll be AMAZING. Having spent time with some of the bands this wednesday just gone (on my third consecutive 12 hour plus day) I cannot wait for the gig at all at all. Nice one the JAMinals.

4b: Then, whilst clearing your diaries for the one gig please do clear 'em for the Euphonix gig in Epsom where 6 of the bands from the arts centre will be playing. Again, well worth your attention. More details to follow.

5: Sylver 2. Couple of things coming up in terms of interviews and the like. Hopefully again this will help the message get out there that the books been released :) and exists. For the record I'm now at Chapter 5 of book 3 (having specced the content out on paper firsthand. I'm trying to keep the freeform nature of 1 and the detail of 2 this time, writing still being a learning curve for me). Suffice it to say that I can't wait for people to read the culmination of the Everything trilogy. Ha! people thought 'Everything changes' with book 2? Wait until next summer and see what is to come... Oooooh can't wait. Funnily enough the character that's made me smile the most in 3 so far... Well, I'd sketched out the beginning and I wasn't expecting that person to say the thing that gets said in the way that it gets said but the moment the words hit the page I was thinking that it couldn't happen any other way. I remember in the writing of book 2 the first time that I started bouncing and wrote a sentence that had me smiling for weeks on end (the reveal of Susan's teacher which, tbh, is such a small thing yet it makes me smile loads. In fact the teacher says one of the more important sentences in book 2 for me, a summation, amongst other things, of why I do youthwork in the first place. That part can be found on page 41 of book 2 if you be interested, middle of the second full paragraph. That chapter I remember writing out in full while sitting at a table during a lull from one meeting at Spring Harvest 2005 to another. Wrote the chapter in one fell swoop, made few changes to it in the months ahead and could name it nothing other than what it was called: Susan. There's very little I can remember about book 2 in ways - I mean I remember a lot but not in as much detail as I remember writing that chapter. Susan's someone I connect with in a lot of ways and the teachers s desperation as she's trying to help is also something I can understand as well).

The other thing that I like about book 3, well, Sylver 3 anyhow, is that the characters who do what they do, the surprising ones especially, have the clues in there from book 1. The end of book 3 is heavily alluded to in book 1 for a start. I keep waiting for someone to say to me: "is this going to happen with XXXXX" and so far no-one has. Don't know whether I'd be gutted if someone did or not to be honest. But anyhow: DSTT is coming, having a laugh writing it (when work is not too stressful around me, and the past few weeks work has been too stressful and writing has been a good therapy).

Currently listening to: Five Iron Frenzy: All the Hype. Totally top stuff. Current socks being worn: last outing for the dual tone grey Bart Simpson socks methinks. Currently prayer requests: For the amount of work in the next few weeks and an organisational mind to get it all done in the correct order. Not my strong suit.
