New review just come in and it's a very pleasant read for orange haired egotists and others as well... I'd started to email around to see if I could get any reviews in in time for the Guildford Book Festival and was pleased to see this one in the inbox when I arrived home lugging half a dozen carrier bags full of tissue paper, paint and pasta (Australian Rain Sticks on monday y'see)... Anyway, over to Gill:

"If you read Paul Kercal's book "Dr Sylver and the Library of Everything" then you will be pleased to know that the adventures of Jamie and his friends continue in "Dr Sylver and the Respository of the Past" published by Highland Books.

The characters introduced in the first book are skilfully developed and the storyline takes on new and surprising twists that will keep you reading to the end.

So why am I recommending it to the Signs of God list? One of the main characters in the book is a Deaf girl at a mainstream school and her particular character is very well portrayed. Paul Kercal obviously knows what he is talking about and has made Charlotte into a very attractive and strong character with friends who are believable and irritating and wonderful.

And the story? You will just have to read it to find out, it's a brilliant and whacky idea that simply works. I love the references to Christians and Gospel truths that permeate the book without being "twee" or predictable. In fact there's NOTHING predictable about this story! It's gutsy and real. Beware - you will be hooked in the first few pages!"
