The Accidental Author.
Guildford author/artist speaks at the Guildford Book Festival.
On 25 October (at 7 pm) local author and artist Paul Kercal will speak at the Guildhall about becoming an accidental author of books for teenagers.
His first two novels: Dr Sylver and the Library of Everything' and its 2006 sequel, Dr Sylver and the Repository of the Past' attracted critical acclaim and Paul will be revealing secrets about this series, but the Festival session will also see him exploring the links between computer games, youth work and writing.
There's a bonus too, he says, I'll even teach you to draw in ten minutes at no extra charge...
The 2005 Guildford Book Festival began with a day event organised by Paul in association with the Big Draw. 'The Big Book Draw' became a six hour creation of the biggest book of the show and 90 people joined in to create a 25 page illustrated storybook that
stood three and a half feet high by two and a half feet wide. Three people were needed to carry it.
Paul Kercal worked during the nineties as a computer games artist for Bullfrog Productions, Pepper's Ghost Productions and Digital Integration working on well known titles such as Theme Park (PC), Syndicate (PC), Magic Carpet (PC), FA18E Super Hornet (PC) and Top Gun (PS2, PC, GC). He currently manages a Youth Arts Centre in Surrey, works as a volunteer youth worker with a group split between two council estates and as a college art tutor.
