would you credit it? an invitation to an actual dinner party, by someone at church? An older couple (well, a bit older) who also invited the curate and his wife. Turns out their baby (the curate's) has been recruited by my assistant for our study. I told them all about it and it seems like she (the baby) will enjoy it; I forgot to mention however that we give the parents a Hard Words test too. Oops. I think it might be politic if I went round and administered the test rather than the assistant!

Went on another, shorter, ride today - 12 miles on canal towpaths. Didn't fall in or drop anything in the canal; did get very muddy! Also had some lovely chocolate cake at a tea rooms by the canal... mmm....

Currently reading: The Other Side of the Story, by Marian Keyes. I made an emergency book-buying dash to Waterstones after writing yesterday's entry, and it was on 3-for-2 offer. I like Marian Keyes, as she is slightly grittier than your average girly novel, without being too difficult for Sunday afternoons post-bike-ride, on the sofa... This one is partly about someone who comes from a Rescue Me NY police/fire department world, and partly about someone coping with her mother's deep depression after her father leaves. So far, not bad.
