Unusual for me to get nerves before speaking in public, but today was my first time doing the reading at church - I reckon there's about 100 normally there, it's quite full, and I was told the wrong reading yesterday by the man in charge! Fortunately the new OT one had none of those horrible unpronouncable names (when practicing the one I thought it was going to be, the Israelites were in the Wilderness of Sin, andI couldn't work out if it was a metaphorical wilderness, a real wilderness with a metaphorical name, or a real wilderness with a coincidental name. Turns out it's the last. It affects the stress on the words, you know!).
Anyway, it was OK, though apparently you can't see me behind the lectern.
Currently listening to: a tape of Mike Yaconnelli speaking at Greenbelt a few years ago, which I discovered when tiding the living room. It brought back some of the Greenbelt Enthusiasm I sometimes get, where I feel excited about God and about changing the world; it is also a bit sad to listen to it and remember how much people miss him.
