When visiting our friends the other night we were warned that "You realise that you will start to develop imaginary children once the assessment process starts? And they will always go to bed on time, and always eat their food and do brilliantly in school etc etc."
I said " Oh, I already have one of those. But it's not really those things. She walks around with me durning my day and never complains that she's bored, and we have great discussions about the clouds and the birds and the doggies in the park, and she loves keeping me company on my various errands and sits and plays quietly at home when I'm working, and when we have a moment we have brilliant times over ice-cream, which she eats without messing her clothes up etc. etc. etc."
Friend said, "You do realise you will have to give her up before you adopt a real child?"
I sighed, "Yes, I know."
I do know, really. It's just nice to imagine sometimes.
