not a good reason to adopt

I don't read tabloids (except in an occasional "train wreck in slow motion" kinda way) and I am not a celebrity wathcher. When I do come accross something tabloidsih I always take it with several shedloads of salt. I don't believe a word. However, when someone passed this snippet onto me that was printed in yesterday's Sun "newspaper" I got very annoyed. Whether or not the model Jordon has actually said/thought these things is completely beside the point.

The problem is that the most popular newspaper in print in Britain today have given the impression to the masses that adoption is an easy option. They've given the impression that raising a child isn't what counts, that it's simply having the child as some kind of social trophy for the media to write abobut. I mean, for pete's sake! Just forget about sex, relationships, family, responsibility, parenthood, and anything that requires a bit of time and effort. If you don't have time for any of that difficult stuff just "get 'em from the Third World".

Anybody else feel sickened by the language?

And don't misinterpret. I am hugely in favour of intercountry adoption, and as I have said, not being a celebrity watcher, I really don't know enough about Jordon (nor want to) or Angelina Jolie to comment on their real motives for adopting as opposed to what the media tells us. (and in fact from what I have been told about Angelina Jolie's work for the UN in the developing world I hazard a guess that she is actually working at being a good mum to her African children and not just a 'do gooding celebrity'.) And I will also admit here too that it's not just the tabloids that get it wrong. A couple months ago the Independent (or was it the Guardian) reported that small pet dogs carried in handbags were this season's must have fasion accessory!

Some media responsibility please!

Jordon's too busy to-romp
The Sun -- 4 July 2006

MODEL Jordan wants to adopt a child - because she is TOO BUSY to have sex with hubby Peter Andre.
The mum of two, 28 - who is writing a book and acting - said: "You've got to have sex to make kids. I try but we're both so knackered."
Jordan told New! magazine, on sale today, she and Pete, 33, may adopt from the Third World.
She said: "I spoke to someone last night. They're going to look out for me - the way Angelina Jolie gets them."

p.s. will update on my own 'psychoanaysis session' ;-) later. And ta for the tips Smudgie. It's always great to read your comments!
