Just heard some rather exciting news. Some crazy friends of mine have set up a duck density website which puts universities into league tables depending on the density of ducks (any bird that goes on water) on campus. They basically did this because they visited Nottingham uni and discovered that they had a huge lake with hardly any ducks, whereas York (their uni) has a small lake with lots of ducks. They thought it would make a nice change for York to come at the top of one of the league tables, so created their own, duck density league table! ;)

The exciting news is that this crazy, student idea has attracted media attention. They've had phone calls from BBC Radio Scotland, and interview requests from BBC Radio Leeds, BBC Radio Humberside, The Yorkshire Post and the Nottingham evening post!!! They also think its in the Guardian, again. WOW!!!! Who would have thought that a student mad initiative, that was carried through, could generate so much attention? I think they only initially did it as a joke! Crazy world! It does make you think though. Students have the time, energy and unique craziness to generate so much media attention - it could be used in so many situations, like to generate more hype about Make Poverty History. I'm not saying that duck density isn't a good way to direct this kind of enthusiasm, but there are better ways.
