I've just had a days worth of lectures on vomit. Well, gastro-intestinal problems. This morning we revised the anatomy and physiology of the GI tract - I was really impressed with how much I remembered from last year and A level Biology. And then this afternoon we were looking at possible problems in the GI tract. Its really fascinating! When she was going through it, I was reminded of children that I have helped to nurse in the past year, and was able to think 'ah! so thats why they did that!' I now feel very knowledgable about the gastroesphageal reflux, D & V, gastroenteritis and shock. Its great to be able to understand the biology behind the problem and actions that can be taken to treat the illness and make the child better.
And don't worry, I did go 'ugh!' as much as the next person when she described in detail the different types of D & V, but I did also go 'wow!' when it all made sense! :)
