I went to see my personal tutor today, and although disappointed because she didn't go through my community profile with me, she did say that i could change my placement to an area which she knows is of special interest. At the moment my placement after Christmas is a ward based setting, in an area which is highly interesting, and I would learn reasonable amounts from it, although it could be very quiet. She explained that I could change it to another area, which I do have a keen interest in. This other area would not be in a hospital setting, and would give me completely different experiences.
I was quite shocked at being given the choice. I have never been given a choice before. And so, did not feel I could make a decision there and then. But I have to decide by Thursday. The area she has said that I could have my placement in, as well as being in an area of special interest, has the added advantages of nice hours (no shift work or weekends!!!!!) and is also closer and easier to get to. But, I'm not 100% sure that it would give the clinical experience I need or if it would allow me to sign off the required achievements.
I only found out this information 3 hours ago, so I haven't really had chance to think about it properly. But, I have to say I am leaning towards the area of special interest. I am trying to decide according to which would be best for my learning needs, but the advantage of no shift work or weekends, is bound to have some influence. I think I will have to think some more about it, and talk to my parents and friends about the alternatives.
