Ethics

I've got a few ethical questions I'd like to ask.

Firstly - what is ethical furniture? In the town I'm staying in, there is a shop which claims to sell 'ethical furniture'. This intrigued me, especially considering I'm currently looking out for a suitable piece of furniture for my room next year. So, what is the difference between 'ethical furniture' and non ethical furniture? Obviously the price is different - the ethical furniture is about twice the other furniture I had been looking at. But, at the same time this furniture seemed to be much better quality, and hand crafted, not mass produced. The other obvious issue with buying it there, is that I'd have to transport it back - with my main method of transportation being trains, makes this difficult.

Secondly - Through working at this placement, I am meeting and spending more time with people who are 'outside the eco-friendly bubble', as it were. People who burst into laughter at the thought of using a bike occasionally, instead of owning 3 cars (between 2 drivers). People who use a car to get to work, which is 10 minutes walk away. People who don't seem to have any consideration for saving energy. What I'm not sure about is, how much should I do to make these people more aware of these kind of issues? I did my best, the other day, to try to presuade my friend to walk to work, when she was trying to decide, but she still drove. I mean, what else can I do? What is the best way to go about it?
