I hate answering the phone at work. Its one of my pet hates, because its not unusual for me to mess it up. But then it just makes me more nervous, so I mess it up more. At the moment I'm forcing myself to answer it, because I know its the only way I'll improve.
Yesterday I answered the phone and made a complete mess of it. The woman on the end of the phone was asking a perfectly valid question, but one I knew I couldn't give a full answer to over the phone, due to confidentiality. And whats more, I didn't know all the details to the answer myself because I wasn't looking after the person she was enquiring about. But instead of explaining all this, I just randomly babbled, rather nervously. And as people who know me will know, I tend to say 'erm..' a lot, especially when I'm nervous. The next thing I know, the woman says 'you like that word, don't you?'. I was a bit confused, and said 'sorry?' She repeated herself - 'you like that word, erm, don't you?'. At this point I could feel my cheeks burning up and I really didn't know what to say in response to that. So I said, 'erm, yes'. Oh bugger.
