We're getting there

If I remember correctly, that was the motto of the old nationalised British Rail. Thankfully, none of the new train companies retained this slogan on privatisation as it does sometimes seem to be a little over-hopeful.

However....this weekend I have the great joy of travelling from Swansea to Derby by train and back again - a journey of about 200 miles each way. The way there this evening shouldn't be too bad (apart from the sheer number of people crowded into a rather small space) but journeying back on a Sunday is quite frequently a rather unpredictable experience - with re-routing, cancelled trains, bus replacements et al. I'm not sure I've ever got back in the time I should by the route my ticket states.

This weekend, even the train company has admitted I'll probably need to use at least one replacement bus, and change twice. In theory, the journey time should be about four and a half hours, but they're suggesting it'll probably take about 6 hours this time.

So, on the grounds that your guess is as good as anyone else's, over to you! Any suggestions as to the length of time it's likely to take, or any unusual routes I could end up going by?

PS If I don't post again for a while, please send out the search-parties...you may be my only hope!
