'Twas on the Sunday morning the gas man came to call....

Brrrrrrr!

For the last week or so I've been existing with no heating or hot water, since my boiler decided it was time for a rest. And, of course, it had to happen in the one week of the year when there was no chance of me getting to work from home. So it's been a little chilly :(

Eventually, I managed to get the gas man round today, and at first all seemed ok - it was just that my pilot light had gone out, and of course it's one of those really useful boilers which needs entirely dismantling (by a gas man) to be able to get a match in and relight it. And then he discovered the fan thing was stuck, so the pilot wouldn't stay alight. In spraying some lubricant on it, he nearly set himself, the boiler and my kitchen on fire when the pilot light suddenly ignited the lubricant!! I very nearly had no problem with a lack of heat!

Anyway, it turns out my fan is sticking and needs replacing. He managed to get it restarted so I could run the radiators at full blast to warm the house up, and have a shower in hot water, but warned me that as soon as the boiler clicked off for a moment, the fan would stop again, and the pilot go out. He's coming back on Tuesday afternoon with a new fan. So, in the meantime, it's back to the hot water bottle, methinks.

If any kindly Australian readers would like to parcel up some warmer weather and send it this way, I'd be most grateful.
