Well, thanks to Unordered, I think we may have located the problem with the anzac biscuits. The recipe we had told us to use 2 tablespoons of baking soda...whereas Unordered's recipe recommends one teaspoonfull. This is rather a large difference.
I think this probably explains quite how bubbly it got, although I have to admit, it was fun to watch - especially since it wasn't my cooker that got covered in it ;)
