Cookery experiments

Having experimented with making a propotype "chocolate rocket" today, it got me thinking about the cooking things we've done with the Brownies recently. As part of our harvest theme, I spent a couple of evenings making soda bread rolls with small groups, and I was astounded that they had any mixture left to actually bake once they'd finished "kneading" the mixture. I'm not sure I've ever seen quite as much mess in a kitchen - they has the mixture up their arms, sticking to their hands, flour on noses, on the floor....but they were really enjoying themselves. And I have a feeling that this next activity will result in rather a lot of chocolatey mess, but that they'll enjoy that too.

I suffer with the same difficulty as Blonde when it comes to cooking - I quite enjoy it, but just never seem to get round to it when it's just me I'm cooking for. So maybe the answer is to somehow try and recreate that "fun" aspect, where the end product isn't really as important, it's the joy of the process that matters.

The only trouble is, I'm not sure I could cope with the cleaning up if I start making quite as much mess as the Brownies do...
