Sad reflection

At lunchtime today I found a wallet in the street. A quick glance showed me that there was a fair bit of money in it (over £100), and no obvious address. So I wandered over to the police station to hand it in, and the policeman in the office told me that although they get wallets handed in all the time, in all his years of policing I was only the second person who'd handed in a wallet with the money still in it. Of course some/many of those wallets will have been empty when they were found, but he really seemed to be implying that found wallets are cleaned out by the finders before they hand them in. I think that's so sad, and I feel quite glum about the state of the human condition.

Thankfully, I'm very sure that it won't be too long before some wonderful person does some random act of kindness and restores my faith in humanity.

In other news, the reference arrived yesterday! So nearly the end of that particular saga (I hope). Am just trying to pluck up the courage to go through the ESRC website and download the application form for funding. As previously blogged, the ESRC site is so incomprehensible that by the time I get to the form I'll be a gibbering, incapable wreck.
