I'm not the world's best at housework (*smiles as she imagines her mum and all her former flatmates ever reading this*) and to be honest don't do it as often as perhaps I should, as I think life's too short. However, last night I agreed to have an American shipmate stay tonight prior to going to the airport tomorrow for her return flight, and so all of a sudden housework has taken on something of an urgency. The bathroom and kitchen are now fragrant and gleaming, stuff that was piled all over the kitchen table is now safely hidden away (:D) and I'm just about to blitz all the stuff that's accumulated on the sofa (now there's only one of me I usually sit on the chair, hence the sofa has become a bit of handy extra storage). It still won't be immaculate, but compared to usual it will be a palace.
Of course, when we arrive home I shall turn to my guest, smile sweetly and say "You must excuse the mess!" without the tiniest hint of irony, like I'm usually a domestic goddess but have let the place go a bit.
I guess I just wasn't born with the tidy gene. Which is a shame, as I do prefer it tidier. But I also prefer having a life. Oh, and now all my books are back where they should be I have discovered that I have reached bookshelf capacity and so need a new one. As someone who can't throw away books (well, apart from a few embarrassing Christian ones) and loves buying new ones (despite having loads that I'm yet to get round to reading) this was a very pleasing discovery.
