This month I went to the big one - locals and tourists alike are shocked that after nearly 15 years in London I'd never been before, but no longer: I can now say that I have, at last, been to the British Museum - hooray! And very good it was too, though it's so vast that I could only flick through most of it, despite spending over 3 hours there. If I go back I will just have to select a couple of galleries and spend some proper time there taking it in slowly, rather than trying to do it all, which is impossible. I particularly liked the ceiling of the new Great Court, and the Assyrian collection, especially the reliefs from various palace walls which have been preserved remarkably well, considering their age and size. I also met up with a couple of people from SoF and we went to the Museum's current special exhibition, "Mummy: the inside story" which was really interesting, and included lots of us looking very silly in 3D specs. Afterwards the three of us adjourned to a nearby Korean restaurant, where I disgraced myself by asking for a fork (I've tried with chopsticks, really I have, but if I'd not had a fork we'd still be there now waiting for me to finish chasing individual bits of rice round the plate). The food was good - I think I prefer Korean food to Chinese actually, at least the Chinese food that we get over here anyway. And then on to the Museum Tavern for another Ship Meet, which included (amongst others) fellow wibbloggers Nanny Ogg, Gambit, Spike and Scooby (aka Tina). I woke up this morning faintly hung over, which is a bit peturbing given that I've given up alcohol for Lent and really didn't drink anything other than water and fruit juice. I must be getting old.
