Caffeine in church

I don't drink coffee, so have no idea what the standard of coffee in my church is. However, I have very definite opinions on the tea, and have to honestly say that if the Mystery Worshipper (see link from SoF main page) ever decides to grace us with his/her presence I really wouldn't recommend it at our place.

Now I must admit, I do like my tea outrageously weak (as in, wave the teabag at the hot water weak, and most definitely no squeezing of the teabag, which is a cardinal sin in my book. And I definitely want to still be able to see the bottom of the cup once the teabag has been removed). I do realise though that 'weak' is relative, and if you're used to industrial strength brew then what is served in church possibly is weak in your book. Today my friend and fellow weak tea drinker (with whom I have disparagingly and despairingly discussed the so-strong-you-can-stand-the-spoon-up-in-it strength of our post-service brew on a number of occasions) got me a cup and even supervised the small bit of tea in the bottom of the cup topped up with lots of water to try and dilute it a bit. I must admit it was a slight improvement on the usual fare, but it has still given me a thumping headache. I like being sociable at the end of the service, and drinking a cup of tea is of course the quintessentially English way of doing that, but I think I am going to admit defeat and join the kids with their juice in future. I'll probably be bouncing off the walls from all the E numbers, but at least I won't have a headache.

Thanks for all the free culture suggestions. I'm a bit of a fair weather walker so will save the walking round London till the summer (great idea though, and yes it definitely counts!). But one of Nessa's links has given me some inspiration so I know what I'll probably do instead. And as it's near where a friend works I may work lunch and socialising into the day as well. Hooray!
