A good few years back I was chatting with a friend K, and we discovered that we each had a similar level of disproportionate glee when we won pretty insignificant things (at raffles or that kind of thing). Occasionally we'd win something a bit more exciting (I was particularly chuffed when I won a Rough Guide of my choice), and today I did it again. I didn't even have to do anything other than leave my name and address, but it was my name that got pulled out of the hat the other week, and so now I'm the proud owner of yet another book (to join an ever-growing pile of unread books), this time From my sisters' lips about women who have chosen and embraced Islam and feel anything but oppressed by it. It looks fascinating, I heard the author interviewed on the radio (that's how I won it, they had a free copy to give away) and I'm sure I'll find it very challenging as I'm as guilty as the next person of judging individual women by my perceptions of their religion and culture.
The only problem is, because I've got such great taste in books, all of the many books I have which I've still yet to read are deep and meaningful and interesting and so on (including the other five Captain Underpants books I bought of course), so I really haven't a clue which one to go for next. At least it's a fun dilemma.
