Things I won't miss when I move

Number 1: spiders

I know they exist UpNorth, and no doubt I'll have an eight-legged encounter before too long. But I evicted 3(count 'em!) huge ones from my house this evening, including one with bigger thighs than me!

My former lodger always said, and she was absolutely right, that she'd never known a house with so many spiders. Although they're currently outnumbered by my moth infestation (I'm burning lavender oil as I write, as apparently they don't much like that), and maybe I'd be a bit more kindly disposed to them if they ate some of the moths. But this house isn't big enough for me and them, so out they went (humanely of course).

One of the many reasons why I haven't packed yet is that all of my cardboard boxes are in the loft. As well as my ladder phobia not helping matters, I'm dreading going up there and meeting jumbo spiders. I'm embarrassed to confess, I've never actually been into my loft other than to poke my head through the hatch - my dad put the boxes in there (there's nothing else of mine up there) and a friend sorted out my hot water once. But I don't really do ladders (nasty wobbly things). Fortunately a friend has volunteered to hold the ladder next weekend so I will at least have one less excuse to not go up there and get the boxes down. But who knows what creatures that will let loose into the house? Eek.
