Anti-climax

Today was my last day at work. I had a leaving do at lunchtime, where people said lovely things about me and brought lots of cake :) I was slightly hungover having been to a barbeque at Lambeth Palace last night (my friend works there, and this barbeque is an annual event celebrating the birthday of one of the more longstanding palace employees. Last year I was there sipping Pimms in the sun, last night we were cowering from the rain in the garage). And now today I'm no longer responsible for my caseload. That feels weird.

I also today heard from the ESRC about my funding. A case of so near yet so far. They measure each application against 3 criteria (personal details/references, research proposal and supervisor's report), the cut off mark this year was 83% and I got 79%. I'm less disappointed than I thought I would be - if I'd got a lower mark that would have really dented my confidence, but as I got a good mark in the research proposal section and a high mark overall it's at least telling me that my research is well thought out and does stand up there with the best. So now I know that I'll be paid by the university rather than the ESRC, I've got to get my head round this 6 hours a week undergraduate teaching I'm supposed to be doing (like finding out what subjects!). If it's study skills and health/social care sort of stuff then I'll be fine. If it's Baltic politics or Russian military history or somesuch then I'm in big trouble!
