Inspired by the wibsite's very own Yay (of "Tales of Variable Yayness" fame) I have decided to make Scottish life more interesting by turning everything into an adventure. Thankfully so far it has not involved getting locked inside random buildings, but today's adventure was to do the bus journey into town to see how long it would take from where I'm staying to uni. I was following the route with my A-Z at the same time so I had half a clue where I was, but of course that meant that because I was looking down and reading the map I couldn't look ahead out of the front of the bus, so by the time I got off I felt really queasy. So I've come to an internet cafe and had a chocolate brownie, and funnily enough I feel much better.

I was getting a bit concerned at the bus stop though. First of all I wondered if all Glasgow's buses had been raptured, because there didn't seem to be very many of them, and then lots came along on the other side of the road. I did at one point consider crossing the road and getting on one of those buses instead, but as a strategy for adventure it did seem a bit flawed, so instead I leant noncholantly against the bus stop sign and nearly fell into the road as it promptly collapsed (well, a slight exaggeration, but it definitely moved a lot more than structures encased in concrete pavements are supposed to), which leads me to suspect that my month of not going to the gym has had even more of a detrimental effect than I was already aware of. I wonder how much a month's worth of lardiness actually weighs? (Thank God my scales are in storage).

The bus journey took quite a long time (I'm in Glasgow's equivalent of Croydon at the moment, for Londoners who would appreciate the comparison, so it means quite a bit of a commute) - over an hour, and this was not rush hour. Am praying hard that I don't have 9 o'clock lectures (or even worse, that I'm expected to teach 9 o'clock tutorials, although I suppose that if I have to teach at 9 most of my students will be lying in and so won't notice my zombie-like incoherence). I'm meeting the head of department and my supervisors tomorrow (thankfully in the afternoon) so will discover the gory timetable details then. While I'm up here today though I'm going to make some first moves towards signing up with estate agents - if the workload doesn't finish me off, the commute will.
