Thanks everyone for your lovely comments, you're all wonderful (as if you didn't know). It's made me feel so much better.

Today I was late for my first lecture :) In my defence, I did leave the flat at 7.30am, but the traffic was worse than I expected, so at one point I leapt off the bus to use the Clockwork Orange (Glasgow's underground train network - think Toytown London Underground in bright orange), except that I miscalculated the distance between bus stop and tube station so was running along the street having a "Four Weddings ..." moment (think that bit at the start of the film). I eventually arrived at 9.20, I don't think I missed anything important but there is a huge amount to take in, and the timetable seems to be on various random pieces of paper rather than in one single coherent place, so I'll have to sort that out later before I have any clue what's happening. Good news is that I'm pretty sure it's only this week I'm supposed to be in for 9, from next week things seem to become a bit more civilised.

Things I need to buy urgently:

1. Umbrella that doesn't blow inside out every 5 seconds.
2. Waterproof boots that don't make me look like Farmer Giles.
