This morning was the 50th anniversary service for the URC church I'm currently attending most weeks whilst I'm staying with friends here. The church was packed, and 4 of the 5 previous ministers of the church were in attendance. It was really moving - even though I don't really know people here, and I don't intend to make it my permanent church home as I'll be moving out of the area soon, I still had a sense of the history of a community, a new church that was built to serve a new town. That feeling continued afterwards as we had a celebratory lunch at a local hotel - I'm now absolutely stuffed. I hope when I move that I find somewhere where I can feel part of the ongoing history of the community.

I might look into a weekend retreat after all, even though really I'd like to spend a bit longer. I was chatting with my parents yesterday, and provisional dates for moving in to the new flat and the arrival of furniture and all that sort of stuff are scarily close to Christmas and New Year, then they'll come up to see me the following week and then I'm back to uni for next term. So I think if I don't go soon my next chance will be at Easter. I can't wait that long - I need to sort my head out!
