more flat hassles

It was all going so smoothly, something pear-shaped had to happen sooner or later. Sigh. Got home this evening to a letter from my solicitor explaining that the flat I'm buying needs a fair bit of damp work doing (more than was suggested by the survey) - I shall see if I can get the asking price down to cover it, I don't want to have to pull out now and go back to the drawing board as that would just be too depressing (and if all else fails I can afford to get the work done), but that will mean that I won't be able to move in straight away and will then not only be marking essays over Christmas but will also be marking them in a flat which will badly need redecorating after the work (but won't be able to be redecorated till the new plaster's dried). I'm trying to look on the bright side - I enjoyed the bit of painting of the curate's flat I did over the summer, and so decorating would be fun (plus it will be the first time I've ever had to choose paint and stuff, that's really exciting). But I could do without it *right now*. Sigh.
