In Russian, there are two very similar looking letters which don't usually confuse me when I see them printed but often confuse me when I'm trying to write them. They are "У" (a vowel which is pronounced "oo") and "Ч" (a consonant which is pronounced "ch"). I think my problem is that when I write an English "y", my handwriting is such that it looks like "Ч", so I tend to use that one interchangeably when I write. I think generally my written Russian is starting to look more like a 6 year old's (as opposed to the 4 year old's handwriting that I felt so self-conscious about when I first started trying to write it).
What is good though is that I feel a lot less despairing about learning Russian than I did this time last year when I was doing the evening classes. Being in a much much smaller class definitely helps, as does having a teacher who isn't bonkers.
