I'm going to try to get back into the whole "culture once a month" thing, today's was probably cheating, but a nice thing to do just prior to rejoining WeightWatchers Online. I went and had a muffin and tea (and hideously naughty chocolate slice thingy which we won't talk about) in the Willow Tea Rooms, one of the tea rooms designed by one of Glasgow's most famous sons, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. I must admit, although it's easy in Glasgow to overdose on Rennie Mackintosh, I do rather like his (very distinctive) architecture and furniture, and as there's going to be a shipmeet in Edinburgh in just over a week I may try to get to his watercolours exhibition which details the watercolours he painted in France in the last 5 years of his life, and which seem really quite different to the architecture and furniture for which he's most well known. Anyway, the Willow Tea Rooms - I thought the food was a bit pricey (which was why I was tight-fisted and just had a muffin) but pleasant enough, it was really crowded but then it was lunchtime so fair enough, and overall as good a place as any to drop into for a quick cup of Earl Grey if you want a break from the nearby shopping. Certainly a nice easy start to Glasgow culture - I have something more substantial possibly lined up for February (depending on whether I can persuade a friend who's coming to stay to join me) - watch this space!
