Today after church and a meal out with the outlaws, we headed out to Dunstable Downs for the annual Kite Festival. HD and the outlaws are all keen kite-fliers. It was a bit bracing, which I guess translates as "good weather for kites". Here are some pictures:

We saw a display of power kiting (two guys on a little cart powered by a big kite). It was great, though the photos were a bit hit and miss - in the second one, the delay on digital cameras between pressing the shutter and the picture actually being taken meant that I lost what would have been a great picture. When I pressed the shutter the guy and his cart had been completely lifted into the air and he did a fancy turn, but by the time the picture was taken he had landed again and it's just an ordinary pic:

The final two show a giant seahorse kite (which was just being brought in to be packed away - there were a number of these giant animals, like the kites that were at Greenbelt last year), and the view over Dunstable Downs. It really is a fab view, and the clouds were really dramatic. I included me in it as I wanted to see what HD meant - he thought I looked like Biggles!
