I moseyed on down to my local farmers' market this morning and have returned with bag bulging with huge leeks, potatoes, turnip and some very interesting-smelling Isle of Arran cheese. Gazing into my crystal ball I think I see a freezer-full of soups and stews in my near future.

What I'm most pleased with though is that one of the stalls was for a local community group, really near here, where they have reclaimed some derelict ground and turned it into a community garden and they provide work experience for local people and also organise things like litter pick-ups, garden clearing, and (I'm most pleased about this) they said that they would happily take all my veg clippings now that I can't compost here any more. Chucking away the veg waste has been breaking my heart, I used to find making my own compost so satisfying, so I'm really happy about this (in fact I would go so far as to say it made my day). I'm seriously thinking about volunteering with them, I love these little community groups and in this area I can see a garden like that as quite a haven.
