I have just sent an email to a (very brainy and very very scary!) retired professor asking to meet up with him to discuss my research. I dropped a name from the past which will hopefully intrigue him enough that he'll reply - years ago, before I did nurse training, I worked for an NGO which used said brainy and scary professor as a consultant, whilst he was still working here at the uni. Of course, if he replies then I shall have to sort out a crash course in figuring out what on earth my research is about. Sometimes I kid myself that I know what I'm doing, but whenever I'm in the presence of someone who *really* knows what they're doing, the stark realisation that I'm ultimately pretty clueless does rather come back to haunt me.
