I've just caught sight of this column on SoF by Andrew Rumsey, who just so happens to be the vicar of my London church. As usual I enjoyed it very much, and (as often happened at said church) one statement just seemed to put its finger *exactly* on the spot for me. I had to get to the end of the column, but when he wrote "But for each of us, the deeper truth is perhaps that we need memories with a future, which lamp up the road ahead and lead us home. Memories which, ultimately, can reckon with death" I had to catch my breath. That statement I think sums up better than anything else the basis for my counselling last year, and has articulated better than I ever could some issues which I need to continue bringing to God. I'm slightly stunned [in a good way! :)].
