As previously mentioned, I spent most of August in London. After a week in Gipsy Hill housesitting for Mary I spent the rest of the time staying with a friend, S, in my wonderful old stamping ground of Brockley. Most of the socialising time was spent at friends' houses, though I'm pleased that S and I did manage a trip to Moonbow Jakes (the lack of apostrophe has always really bugged me, regular readers will be unsurprised to learn) where I'd spent many a happy hour with a bottle of Crianza. It was strange to be driving down the old familiar streets again too, and at one point someone stopped me near the station and asked for directions somewhere, which I was able to give without giving it a second thought. In Glasgow, unless it was immediately around my flat I'd probably still have to dig out the A-Z. I deliberately didn't go up my old road past my old house, although I did once unavoidably get a train which went past the house from the back - the trees were leafy so I couldn't really make out the garden, although it looks like one of the clematises (clematii?) on the arch has gone mad this year. I planted that :( I still miss my garden so much.

It didn't look like a huge amount had changed, other than that they're about to do up the rough ground near the station which will be good. Soul in the City/Brockley Cross Action Group planted up an area of ground there a couple of years ago which is still looking good (and is a vast improvement on the dull grass that was there before), despite the dry ground (I couldn't believe when I drove through Blackheath how yellow the entire heath was - I've never seen it like that before).

I've occasionally received random visits from links from a few other Brockley bloggers. So, I thought it was about time I returned the favour:

And here are some rather arty shots of Brockley from the flickr Brockley group. It doesn't look too bad from certain angles :)
