Glasgow not quite daily photo blog

Ever since I posted this the other day, I've been ever so distracted by the various daily photoblogs from around the world, some of them really are stunning (check out Jakarta and New York, for instance, though some of the smaller places - eg Sharon and Antigua - are also great). Even though I can't do a Glasgow one as someone's beaten me to it, it has inspired me to take some pictures of the city, as there's so much of interest, and I thought that I'd post them occasionally if I'm having a slow blognews day.

Here's my first offering - I thought I'd start local:

IMGP1152

This is the view over the city from Queen's Park here on the South Side (not bad for a local bit of greenery!), I really like walking up here and taking in the view. On the left, just by the trees, you can hopefully make out the pseudo-Sydney-Opera-House-ish Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) which is known locally as "the armadillo" for obvious reasons. In the centre, just to the right of the church spire, is a white arc - that is a new bridge over the river which opened last week (the bridge, not the river!). It's known officially as the Clyde Arc, but in the grand tradition of giving new bridges a nickname and never referring to its real name (Millennium/Wobbly Bridge anyone?) this one has already been christened the Squinty Bridge. I might well have a wander over there some time and see what all the fuss is about.

Just above and to the right of the Squinty Bridge is a long brown building with a gothic-y spire in the middle. That's Glasgow University's main building, and is rather fabulous, I'll definitely be taking some more pictures of that at some point. And of course, you can see the hills beyond to the north of the city. What a great place.
