So I was in York for the weekend, for a birthday party, and had a great time with HD. We did tons of touristy stuff - walking round the old city walls, checking out a couple of galleries, and also managed a go on the Yorkshire Wheel, York's equivalent of the London Eye. I have to say, once you've been on the London Eye any other big wheel is going to struggle to compete, but we had good weather and we did get some good views from the top of the wheel - this is probably the best one:

We also went to the pictures - we saw a film called The History Boys, which I thoroughly recommend - I'd say it's British film whimsy in the same way that "The Full Monty" was British film whimsy, if that makes sense. Well worth a couple of hours of your time - there's a snatch of dialogue over at the film's imdb page.

Dave (amongst others) has highlighted that tomorrow (UK-ers only) can take part in the biggest blog in history. Great idea, take part if you can - you too could help out PhD students of the future.
