It wasn't me, officer!

PC Plod paid me a visit this morning in the Stately Pile. It wasn't entirely unexpected, but was a bit irritating.

Earlier this week I got home to find a calling card had been put through the door, asking the person whose name was on the card to phone the local cop shop to "uplift a summons" within the next two days. That name wasn't mine (you'll be relieved to know), so I phoned the police to say they'd got the wrong address, and they said they'd pass it on to the relevant administrative people and they wouldn't bother me again. "I give them 4 days", I thought, and then forgot about it.

Four days later (today) PC Plod arrived to see why nobody had paid any attention to the calling card. I pointed out that I had paid attention to it, and alerted his station, but clearly the message remained on the back of an envelope rather than going where it was intended. All sorted out now though, no problems, and now I've spoken to PC Plod in person that should be that.

I am slightly bothered though that, for the second home in succession, the authorities responsible for sorting out naughty people think there's someone naughty at my place. In London I had a really alarming visit by bailiffs, who if they'd opened their eyes (never mind checked the electoral roll) would have seen that my house really wasn't a dodgy garage (whose owner they were after), and now this. Is it really too much to ask that the authorities check the electoral roll and council tax records before sending round the heavies? This has meant 2 visits from the police, and a phone call from me, all of which could have been avoided. Gah.

In other news, I'm going to see HD this weekend. Hooray! :)
