I'm just back from the panto! St Frodo's has a number of people who perform regularly with a local Am-Dram group (including at proper theatres and all), and every year they do a panto in the church hall. This year it's Sleeping Beauty, and I've just had the best time, booing at the baddie (Fairy Glitch - fabulously camp), yelling "it's behiiiiiiind you!", groaning at the terrible puns, and generally forgetting all about stuff like essays (booo! etc). Here's a photo I took towards the end, which features a guy from my church who I'd never have imagined in something like this but was just an absolute natural, and the words to the audience participation bit. Very funny. What a brilliant evening.
I never did go to the panto as a kid - it just wasn't one of those things we did as a family - and have only ever been to one other one, which was at my old (mad) church in the early 90s. I remember that one was brilliant as well - even though they were all amateurs there were so many really talented writers and performers that it was really high quality and we'd all shouted ourselves hoarse by the end, just like tonight. I was speaking earlier on the phone to a friend from that church and we were fondly reminiscing - happy times indeed.
