So, last night I had the pleasure of hosting the first night of Tractor Girl's great Christmas adventure UpNorth&West. It was great to see her, and, as she said, catch up for more than just half an hour in a field in August. I can't wait to hear her adventures, it sounds like a potentially fabulous time. I managed to get her up to the station at early o'clock this morning and haven't heard of any disasters, so hopefully she has arrived safely at the next (main) destination.
As for bruising things - I've a few people from church coming round tonight for a little meal, and I'm going to do mulled wine. The recipe I have for it specifies, amongst other things, "bruised cinnamon stick". How on earth do you bruise a cinnamon stick? I must confess (but don't tell Mrs Beeton) I just put a normal cinnamon stick in, and it always tastes fine to me.
