The other week HD and I joined our local library, just after (finally) registering with the nearby GP practice. He had to take a book back today so we both wandered over and took books out this time. This map shows the UK libraries which have been closed, or threatened with closure (including those which have been reprieved). I am sorry I didn't join the local library in Glasgow (for most of the time I had the benefit of the university library so selfishly didn't see the need). I have decided though that it would be good to not only join but actively use the library, to do my little bit to help it survive and boost their user numbers should they ever need to make a case for not being cut. Luckily our city doesn't seem to be on that closures map so hopefully the library will carry on for a good while to come. I saw a few books I'd like to read at some point, but know how hopeless I am at getting round to reading so there's no point getting out lots at once. I'll also have a go at ordering my book there for book group, as I buy the book but often don't finish it so it seems a bit of a waste (though I don't feel as guilty if, like this month, I at least buy it from a charity shop).
Love your local library - use it or lose it!
