So, to our final gig of the week. And, of course, it was another really brilliant one. This time we headed to the City Halls to see the final of the Young Scottish Traditional Musician of the Year 2007. As we took our seats I thought I spotted a familiar face, and then realised it was Jack McConnell (the Scottish Parliament's First Minister). Observant as ever.

There were 6 finalists, 4 instrumentalists who played flute, box accordion, fiddle, and whistle/pipes, and two Gaelic singers (one male, one female). As each one played or sang I found myself thinking "they'll win, they're brilliant", and then the next one came on and they were equally brilliant. Thank goodness I wasn't one of the judges - we'd still be there, trying to decide. It was eventually won by the female singer, but honestly, any one of them could have won and I'd have been thinking "yeah, right choice". What a great night (again).

And now we're back, and getting ready to re-enter normal life. Sadly, much as I'd love every day to be full of museums and great concerts, tomorrow we get up far too early to take HD back to the airport so he can go back to work - thankfully not as early as if I'd been at his, since they changed the flight times it means that when I have to catch the early Glasgow flight from his place we have to wake up at 4.30am! 6.15 sounds positively civilised in comparison. And I guess I'd better get my head round my PhD again - I've had a lovely week of not thinking about it at all!
