Seeing as this blog is meant to be primarily about my experience as a student, I do want to record in a reasonable amount of detail the process of writing-up, now that I've got this far. Yes, it's really hard to believe that 4 1/2 years ago when I started this blog I was in my final year of the Masters' degree, and thinking about applying to Glasgow to do a PhD, and now here I am, writing up the thesis. I still can't quite believe it!

So, I felt a bit daunted about starting, and was beginning to think that the whole thing was going to end up starting with the words "Once Upon A Time ...", just so that I could have *something* on paper. I had some rough work that I was meant to have emailed my supervisors by today, in time for supervision on Friday, but due to being away and feeling not 100% over the last week or so I hadn't written as much as I wanted to, and so I have used Day 1 to elaborate on those rough notes and get them in a format where bits of it can be copied and pasted either into my lit review or my second findings chapter. After a shaky start, where I couldn't stop fannying around on the internet, I took myself off to the library and sat at a desk and got quite a lot read and written, with the aim of getting it all to the supervisors by tomorrow morning.

The only problem with working in the library is that if I need to go to the loo or get a drink, I have to pack up absolutely everything and take it all with me, as it's a public space so I can't just leave all my stuff there. At least in my office I can just leave stuff on my desk and nip out to the loo. But in my office there is the evil internet and all the temptations to faff and procrastinate therein. Maybe I should put in a pitch to the department for a 2-room office, one with the computer and one without. I'm sure they'd go for that (not).

But, all in all, I'm quite pleased with today. I have a plan for what I am to do, and I think it might be rather cunning.
