14th August 2011 Part of the plan for the shipmeet on Friday was to meet up in the afternoon and go to the newly reopened Transport Museum prior to meeting up in the evening for drinks/food. Unfortunately the car had to go to the garage on Wednesday to get a scary steering problem sorted out, and I was waiting in thinking I'd be picking it up on Friday (it didn't get done till Saturday in the end). Which meant that I didn't get to the museum after all. It wasn't so bad though - HD also wanted to go to the museum, and works on Fridays, so instead we went today. I had been to the old museum (it was closed as the building, always intended to be temporary, was actually damaging some of the exhibits due to damp etc) so had seen most of the exhibits before, but HD hadn't, and I was really curious to see the new building, which was opened with much razzamatazz a few weeks ago. I've heard a number of people saying they preferred the old one, but I have to say that, apart from the shade of green used throughout the building, I loved it. The building is really interesting, the meal we had in the cafe was really tasty (nice chips!), and there's lots to see. A good day out, only marred by an encroaching headache. I had been hoping to make it to Edinburgh this afternoon/evening to see this show at the festival, but time caught up with me and a couple of hours at a local museum ended up being a much less stressful use of time (I still have the ironing to do - see photo from a few days ago - except the mountain is even bigger now! - and also have to get my head round preparing for a scary job interview in just over a week) (more on that once it's over!). But if any readers are around Edinburgh this coming week, it's on till next Saturday, well worth checking out (not just because I know one of the main people involved) (a few of my other readers will also know her). I'm really hoping it gets an outing at Greenbelt or other festival some time so I can actually get to see it.
