25th June 2011 Today I have had a lovely time singing bits of Handel's Messiah at a Come and Sing event at the cathedral. I used to sing a lot in choirs at school and uni when I was doing my music degree, but really haven't sung much since and whilst I don't feel I want to make a regular commitment of singing with a choir, this one-off was really fun and I'm so glad I went. Although I was horrified when I realised that, although I've sung the Messiah a few times, the last time was in 1987!!!!!! I surely can't be that old. I was also very happy as yesterday on Cumbrae I thought my camera had broken, but a bit of playing about showed that there was a problem with the automatic focus on my main kit lens. But the lovely Kingsfold who was there today managed to fix it - she was showing me how to do the manual focus (up till now I've been using it as a posh point and shoot), and in doing so discovered that the focus ring appeared to have something making it stick. Once she'd turned it a bit though she flicked it back onto automatic focus and it works just fine again. Thank goodness for that - I will probably still take it in at some point to see if I can get it cleaned out/serviced but in just a day I was really really missing some of the autofocus features. HD did say it was a good time to actually read the instructions and learn how to use it properly, which is true, but in the meantime I'm very happy it's fixed.
