31st March 2011 Another not very inspiring day today - cold and windy and at work - so here's another random picture. This is a detail from a vase that I've had since 1994, it's from Romania but the artwork is very typically Hungarian, from a Hungarian village deep in Transylvania called Korund (in Romanian it's Corund, usually the two languages have startlingly different names for the same places). It's really an artisan village, with pretty much just one street and every house has a stall outside selling pottery. Although everyone paints their pottery in the same style with very little variation so you think it's mass-produced, it's mass-produced by hand, if that makes any sense. It's not like anything else really we own (apart from another smaller vase which I bought HD when I went to Romania just before we started going out), and very different from the stuff I'd usually go for, but I guess because it has the Romanian/Hungarian connection I love it - it's one of those pieces I'd be heartbroken if it were to break.
